All students have a C.O.U.G.A.R. Book. This acronym stands for "Complete Organizational book Used to Guide Academic Responsibility". This will be one of the two items that come home daily. The other is, of course, the child's AR book! Please check the C.O.U.G.A.R. every single day, as your signature on the AR log is required. The C.O.U.G.A.R.holds the log, AR tracking form, spelling words for the year, newsletters, reminders, spelling tests, tests, and quizzes.
AR Nightly Reading
Every day, students are expected to read for at least 30 minutes. This includes one night over the weekend. They can complete their daily reading after school, in the evening, or even before school. Reading logs are to be completed daily, with students filling in the date, the title, and the pages read. Students are required to have their logs signed by a parent or adult guardian.
Weekly spelling homework is optional and is left to the parents' or guardians' consents. I recommend having your child take a practice test at home on Monday and use the results to determine whether or not your child needs practice throughout the week. There is a spelling choice board inside of the C.O.U.G.A.R. to use if you like. All spelling tests will be on Fridays.
Math practice is optional, as well. Students will be sent home with their practice math books the second week of school. Every week, the newsletter will inform you on what we're studying in all subjects and which pages to complete in the practice book, if you choose to have your child study at home. I highly recommend all students practice their multiplication facts at home until they are memorized (1-10).
